Specialist groups

Steinschmätzer

The ornithology group at the Museum of Natural History is an independent association of ornithologists from Magdeburg and the surrounding area. There is no membership fee. New participants or guests at individual events are very welcome.

Meetings usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month. The meeting point is the staff entrance on the left side of the building (Danzstrasse car park). Exceptions are indicated in the annual programme. There is a summer break in July and August.

The specialist group evenings include lectures, workshops and film screenings. In May, instead of the meeting in the museum, an evening excursion in the vicinity is organised. At greater intervals, the group also organises joint weekend excursions.

You can view and download the annual programme using the link on the side.

The Entomological Society of Magdeburg (Entomologische Gesellschaft Magdeburg, EGM) is a specialist group at the Museum of Natural History. It was founded on 10 June 1920 and continues a tradition of more than 100 years of research and observation of selected insect groups, especially in the Magdeburg area, Saxony-Anhalt and beyond.

Any citizen interested in entomology can become a member of the EGM if they are committed to the goals and tasks defined in the rules of procedure and would like to actively participate in shaping them. There is no membership fee. New participants or guests at individual events are very welcome.

Meetings usually take place on the second Tuesday of the month. The meeting point is the staff entrance on the left side of the building (Danzstrasse car park). Exceptions are indicated in the annual programme. There is a summer break in July and August.
